New 2014 Toyota Tundra with 2014 Toyota Tundra Release Date, Specification, Review, Features and Price. The 2014 Toyota Tundra at the 2013 Chicago Auto Show was more than a redesign, it was the start of a new battle. The third-generation Tundra, which some analysts say wasn’??t a revolutionary redesign, will now be offered in five trim levels, including two new luxury models.
The most obvious revision for 2014 is to the bluff front fascia of the truck. There’s a new, taller squared-off grille decorating the Tundra’s nose, along with a revised, three-part front bumper design. The optional black grille-frame strikes us as an acquired taste, to say the least, but other models, like the Limited above, is all clad in chrome. Fenders and wheel wells are more square than in the out-going truck, too. Perhaps most significant is the revised bed design, which Toyota calls “all-new,” with new sheet metal on the sides, a revised tailgate and a very subtle integrated spoiler.
Inside, Toyota has given buyers some new seats and a new-look instrument panel. A backup camera (always handy on big trucks) is now standard equipment on all grades, as is Bluetooth connectivity said Autoblog. Blind spot monitoring is a new, optional feature as well. In all, as with the exterior mods, the changes in-cabin are far more evolutionary than revolutionary.
Toyota will continue to offer three powertrains. The 4-liter V-6 produces 270 horsepower and 278 lb-ft of torque; the 4.6-liter V-8 creates 310 horsepower and 327 lb-ft; and the 5.7-liter V-8 cranks out 381 horsepower and 401 lb-ft. The V-6 is mated to a five-speed automatic transmission, while the V-8s are connected to a six-speed automatic.
On Motortrend, the biggest changes are inside the cabin, where Toyota cleaned up the center stack and added a number of creature comforts. The idea was to make the cabin more ergonomic and easier to use. Toyota downsized the huge control knobs that resembled safe dials on a bank vault, making them 2.6 inches smaller. The seats were redesigned to provide more comfort. The instrument panel was redone; the gauges have a crisper look; and a small LCD screen is mounted between the speedometer and tachometer. The interior upgrades are noticeable and welcome.
